The Greek Super League regular season consists of sixteen teams each playing a home-and-home against every other team in the league for a 30 game season. The regular season typically runs from mid-to-late August until the end of April or early May. While the top team is considered to be the champion of the Greek Super League, the second through fifth place teams then qualify for the Playoff Round which pits each team in a home-and-home format. This playoff is then used to determine who goes where in the Champions League and Europa League tournaments. The regular season champion automatically qualifies for the Champions League Group Stage.
