Top 5 Online Sportsbooks and Betting Sites in 2024

There are hundreds of online sportsbooks that have appeared across the globe, but here we cut the list to the top five online sportsbooks that do business all across the world. Our main method of analysis is our own research. However, we also gather information from some of the most well-respected sportsbook review sites on the web, curate them, and create a summarized score for each online sportsbook. By combining this information, we feel that we avoid bias that any one reviewer may give to one of these sportsbooks. As a result, we feel like we have created the perfect list. We are constantly monitoring complaints and positive feedback for every online sportsbook.

Things in this industry can change on a dime, and when they do, we will provide updates. Further, it is important to note that the legal climate for sports betting in the United State is complicated. For a full breakdown of where each state is in regards to their legislation of gambling, we recommend this tracker at the Action Network. The same issues exist with legality in different countries across the globe. So this list may not be applicable in the state and geographic area that you live. We started this list back in 2013, and will continue to update every six months or so when new information becomes available.

Best Online Sportsbooks

Here is the list of the top five best overall online sportsbooks…

#5 – BetAnySports

BetAnySports has gradually become more and more popular in the offshore space as other brands have gone away. BetAnySports used to be loosely affiliated with 5Dimes, but have since broken off and are now independently bookmaking. Overall, the operation has been a huge success. BetAnySports has become an bookmaker that offers very fair lines coupled with quick and reliable deposits and withdrawals. As we are ones who heavily promote line shopping, we highly recommend having some money in BetAnySports.

Their best promotion is that every deposit is matched with 25% free play, and this is guaranteed for the lifetime of your account. #2 – BetOnline

BetOnline offshore sportsbook Logo

BetOnline has been is business since 2001 so we like to refer to them as the “old man on the block”. This designation does not mean that they aren’t ahead of the curve when comparing them to other offshore sportsbooks. For instance, in 2017, they were the first sportsbook to offer Ethereum and Litecoin as options for deposit and withdrawal. They also offer a variety of other options for depositing money (including MasterCard and Visa) and they offer one free withdrawal every 30 days by check. Above all, they have an all-around very solid web site and they have what we think is the best mobile site of any sportsbook out there. BetOnline has been constantly making improvements to the front-end and it looks a little better every year. We are also a huge proponent for low betting limits and BetOnline fits the bill with a $1 minimum bet online!

#1 – Bovada

Bovada offshore sportsbook logo

With arguably the best reputation in the industry, Bovada shines as our top-rated sportsbook for U.S. players. There are a few reasons why we have Bovada at the top. Firstly, Bovada has a significant welcome bonus which provides free wagers up to 50% of your deposit. That free bet can be maxed at $250 and it can be used on any type of bet in the sportsbook. Secondly, Bovada has a well-designed mobile web site which makes placing bets on the go with your Android or iOS device very easy. Thirdly, Bovada has an excellent live betting platform. This gives the bettor the abilities to bet on a wide variety of prop bets during a match up. Further, Bovada has an endless slew of sports to bet. It’s amazing how often one can find a line on an obscure sport or match.

The one drawback that we have with Bovada is that the betting lines seem to come out a little bit later than the other online sportsbooks. As long as you don’t mind waiting until the early afternoon to make your bets on basketball and hockey games then you won’t have an issue with Bovada. Taking all of this into account, and knowing that Bovada is very secure and reliable, gives us good reason to name Bovada the #1 site in our list of top 5 online sportsbooks.

Offshore Sportsbook Honorable Mention

Our list of sportsbooks that just missed out on making our top five.

Nitrobetting

The Nitrobetting Sportsbook is a relatively new company that has made some noise as the most popular “Bitcoin Only” sportsbook. This book is unique in that all transactions, bets, parlays, etc. are done in the Bitcoin (BTC) currency. While this does add a level of complexity in that the Bitcoin currency isn’t stable, it has it’s benefits as well. The Nitrobetting Sportsbook is completely anonymous and depositing and withdrawing money is almost instantaneous! In addition, there is also a great selection of sports, props and match ups that are available. If you can handle the fluctuations of Bitcoin, then this is certainly a sportbook to try.

Factors in Grading Online Sportsbooks

1. Payouts

First and foremost, we like to be sure that we have no issues getting paid (and at a low cost). Different offshore sportsbooks have different philosophies and policies. There are a lot of stories out there about it taking weeks or even months to get paid. We only recommend the books that are swift, reliable, and won’t give a bettor any hassle when they want their money. If we hear any issues from users in regards to payouts, then we will stop recommending a book immediately.

2. Odds

Sportsbooks all work a little bit differently on how they handle their bookmaking. This category takes two things into account. Firstly, if the lines come out early then the book will receive high marks. Secondly, how many games, sports, etc. are listed on the site for betting purposes. Obviously, we like to promote the sportsbooks that have a large section of contests to bet from.

3. Website Design/Look

The usability of a web site is very important. Often times, sportsbooks seem to put the least amount of investment into design and functionality of their web site. Additionally, the last thing that anyone needs is to accidentally bet on something that they didn’t intend because of a poor design. Web sites that easily migrate from section to section will get high marks. We like to promote sportsbooks that are constantly evolving to improve the customer experience. Further, we like to have a seamless experience on a mobile phone and this plays into our analysis.

4. Casino

Most of these sportsbooks have corresponding casino sections built in as well. We judge how quickly the games load, the quality of the games, and how easy it is to transfer money into and out of the casino portion of the account. Though this section does not weigh too heavily on the rankings, it is something that we look at.

5. Racebook

Though not as popular as the sportsbook and casino sections, horse racing is also a popular betting option. Like the casino section, this doesn’t weigh too heavily into our ratings, but it is important.

6. Reputation

No one wants to risk putting their money into a sportsbook only to watch them shut down and keep your deposits. It should be no secret that there are a ton of shady sportsbooks out there that are not strongly regulated. Reputation is wildly important and we only trust books that have a long track record of treating their customers fairly. Concluding, if a sportsbook hasn’t been around for at least five years with an impeccable record, then we wouldn’t touch it.

7. Promotions

Many of the best online sportsbooks have first deposit bonuses and/or promotions that run through out the year to give the user bonus cash. Furthermore, it’s obvious that some are better than others. Usually, you will find that the low juice sportsbooks will have very little promotional incentives while the high juice sportsbooks will offer a variety of neat promotions. Concluding, we try and find a good balance between a sportsbook that has great promotions and fair lines for their customers.

Best U.S. Based Online Sportsbooks

#5 – BetMGM

BetMGM Dashboard

BetMGM Dashboard

BetMGM has arguably been more successful than any other sportsbook at expanding their footprint across the U.S. landscape. Though they definitely got off to a slow start, BetMGM has significantly improved their offerings to get in line with some of the top sportsbooks on this list. Their list of promotions vary from state to state, but in general, they have some of the best available.

#4 – Caesar’s

Caesar's Sportsbook Dashboard

Caesar’s Sportsbook Dashboard

Caesar’s, along with Westgate, consistently have the fairest odds across the sportsbook landscape. At one point, we set Caesar’s back slightly on this list because they didn’t have anywhere near the amount of betting options that everyone else did. Now that the merger with William Hill is completed, their betting options have greatly expanded and overall experience greatly improved.. In all, Caesar’s is a great place to place bets.

#3 – DraftKings

DraftKings Dashboard

DraftKings Dashboard

Draftkings is another sportsbook that has been expanding like wildfire across the United States. DraftKings offers a great product that is very diverse with different things to bet. These guys got their start doing Daily Fantasy contests and all of those options are still available in all of the states that DraftKings does business in. Even though they’ve only been in the sportsbook business for a few years, they’ve already grown into a powerhouse in the industry.

#2 – Superbook

Superbook Dashboard

Superbook Dashboard

While it’s only available in a few states currently, the Superbook currently takes our #2-spot on this list. Readers of this site will note that the Superbook also makes appearances on our best betting apps list and also our list of Top 5 Las Vegas Sportsbooks. The Superbook consistently has some of the best odds that one will find and some great odds booster promotions that can be a great benefit for a bettor. They also run the Super Contest which is the premier handicapper’s challenge. If Superbook was available in more states, then it would undoubtly be our #1 book.

#1 – FanDuel

FanDuel Dashboard

FanDuel Dashboard

The FanDuel Sportsbook has become the revenue leader in many U.S. states and there is really no questions as to why. Their product really is the goods. FanDuel has an excellent offering of promotions, bet boosts and offerings which have helped them pave the way to the top of the market. Though they would definitely still be considered a “recreational sportsbook” they have been slower than others in banning winning players. While these things tend to change overnight, right now, FanDuel is simply the best-of-the-best!
